McAfee ® Installation Guide

General Information

McAfee is only available with the preferred and premiere Internet products. In order to access McAfee, you must first register on http://suddenlink.net and have a current Suddenlink email account.

Our McAfee software is Windows-only. Installation on a PowerPCbased Macintosh is not available. However, it may run on Intel based MACs running Windows software. Apple has designed parental-control features into many of the applications kids use online, such as:

Registration on suddenlink.net

Before downloading McAfee, it is required that you register on Suddenlink.net. Registration is a simple and easy process. Follow the steps below and you will be set up in no time.

Go to http://suddenlink.net and click on the register for suddenlink.net box on the top toolbar.

You will be taken to the manage accounts page. Click on the Step One section on the green bar.

You will need to enter 001 followed by your 13 digit account number which is located on your bill statement (this should give you a 16 digit number to enter). Then enter your pin or last four digits of the primary account holder’s social security number.

Hit submit once finished.

This takes you to a Primary User Registration screen. Fill in your correct contact information in the fields. Required fields are noted with an asterisk.

Once finished, check the I agree and click on the submit button.

You will be taken to a New User Confirmation screen. Please print for your records.

Click on the continue button.

Creating an Email Account

After clicking continue, you will then be brought to a screen prompting you to create a Suddenlink email account which is shown below. Not only is registering on Suddenlink.net required to access McAfee, you will also be required to have a valid Suddenlink email address. Please skip this step if you have an account created.

Click on the add button to create an email account.

Enter your desired email username and click add email to check availability. You will be required to enter at least one number in your email username.

You will be taken to an Email Confirmation screen. Please print for your records.

Then hit continue.

You will see the Manage Accounts screen. Your email may be listed with a pending status for no more than a minute.

After a minute has gone passed, please click on the refresh button in your Internet browser. You should see your email listed under the mail column.

If you still show pending status, try to refresh periodically. If at this time it still does not show, then contact your local office number located on your bill statement.

Downloading McAfee®

Once your email has been set up you can start the McAfee download process. Click on More Info under the McAfee logo.

NOTE: Prior to installation, please disable your firewall and uninstall any preexisting antivirus software on your PC. Failure to do so may cause conflicts with McAfee and/or degrade overall security capability.

The page below will appear if an email address has not yet been provisioned (or is still pending). Primary email must be active to activate McAfee.

You will see the page shown below if you have a current Suddenlink email account. This page is information about the McAfee product. Click on the Add McAfee button to continue.

Shown will be the McAfee services added Confirmation Page. Click continue.

You are now back at the Manage Accounts Page. Notice there is a link that says Download Now under the McAfee logo. You may still see More Info on this page – please wait a few seconds and then refresh the screen.

Click button to Download/Install Privacy Services

Now you must click I Agree on the McAfee license agreement to proceed

Pay close attention to this page. This is the ONLY way to get the serial number! The serial number is located right below the Download button.

Click Save. Save to desktop. Double-click on McAfee icon. Click on Run.

Insert serial number from the Download Manager page and click Next.

Select Products and check McAfee Privacy Service and click Download.

Download will start.

You will need to rerun the .exe after it completes, in order to install the virus scanner, as the Privacy Service and Virus Scanner must be installed separately. To do this, simply double click the saved file, and chose the McAfee VirusScan Plus option, click Download, and follow on screen prompts.

PROCEDE ONLY AFTER INSTALLATION OF BOTH PRIVACY SERVICE AND VIRUS SCANNER

McAfee® Control Center

Clicking on the McAfee Security Center Icon in the system tray (or on the desktop) after installation of McAfee VirusScan Plus will show the screen below. Your PC is now fully protected by McAfee.

The Parental Control option is located on this page. Click on Parental Controls and follow on screen prompts to set-up this feature.
