Suddenlink Offers On-Demand TV Content from The Walt Disney Company, Including ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel, ESPN

ST. LOUIS (Feb. 16, 2010) - Suddenlink announced today that it has started offering free video-on-demand television content from ABC, ABC Family, Disney Channel and ESPN.

The new content is available in all markets where Suddenlink's Video on Demand (VOD) service is available and includes standard- and high-definition (HD) versions of popular ABC broadcast programs, as well as standard-definition content from ABC Family, Disney Channel, and ESPN.

The on-demand ABC content features new episodes of such popular ABC shows as "Lost," "Desperate Housewives," "Grey's Anatomy," "Castle," "Flash Forward," and "Private Practice." In addition, each week's "Good Morning America' episodes will be available in standard definition.

Suddenlink has disabled the fast-forward option for all offered ABC content. Third-party research conducted by Knowledge Networks/Statistical Research has shown that viewers of ABC VOD content with fast-forwarding disabled overwhelmingly (93%) found the advertising acceptable in exchange for gaining free access to favorite shows. The research also found that the addition of ABC series to a distributor's VOD platform grew new usage of the platform and increased frequency of usage by previous users.

New on-demand content from other Disney-owned networks includes...

  • From ABC Family: Episodes of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," "Make It or Break It" and "Greek," as well as the channel's original movies.
  • From Disney Channel: Episodes of "Handy Manny" and "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" for preschoolers, parents, and caregivers, as well as popular series for kids and tweens, such as "Hannah Montana," "Wizards of Waverly Place," "Sonny With A Chance" and "The Suite Life on Deck," among others.
  • From ESPN: Sports documentaries from ESPN's critically acclaimed '30 for 30' film series, exclusive content from the X Games, college football, including the recently completed BCS National Championship Game, the World Series of Poker, the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, classic boxing matches, and college basketball conference championship games, past and present.

In addition, Suddenlink's agreement with Disney allows the cable operator to offer a subscription VOD service featuring selected Disney Channel content. Suddenlink officials said they hope to have this subscription service deployed to the company's VOD customers within the next four to six weeks.
