How To: Configure Outlook Express 5.x and 6 for Newsgroups
► Summary:
Below is information on Newsgroups and information on how to setup a newsgroup account using
Microsoft Outlook Express as your news reader client.
► Newsgroups:
Newsgroups are electronic discussion groups where information on a dedicated topic is posted on a
public news server. Subscribers may read postings (messages) from other members and are allowed to
post, or write their own messages.
Newsgroups can be a valuable source of information where you discover information from people who
use the same products and technology as you do. For example, Newsgroups are divided into a number
of major topics such as business, economy, health, medicine, hobbies, recreation, etc. There are
thousands of newsgroups available on the internet and they offer something for just about everyone.
To read or take part in a discussion, you must first "subscribe" to the newsgroup. You may elect to
have all information and communication from members sent to you at the time it is posted, or to visit
the newsgroup at your convenience and access the information from the public site.
