How To: Verify that an Ethernet Network Interface Card (NIC) Driver
is Installed Properly in Windows XP
Summary:
This article provides information on how to verify that an Ethernet NIC driver is installed properly
in Windows XP.
Solution
1. From the Start menu, right click the My Computer icon to activate the sub menu and then
choose Properties

2. In the System Properties dialog box, select the Hardware tab, and click Device Manager.

3. From the Device Manager window, double-click Network adapters.
4. Under Network adapters, double-click the appropriate Ethernet NIC.
5. in the Your Ethernet Card Properties dialog box, on the General tab, under Device status,
verify the status of the device.

If This device is working properly message is displayed, click OK and exit Device Manager.

If the Device status display shows the device is not working properly, continue to the next
step.

From the Driver tab, complete one of the following appropriate actions:

If the computer was just upgraded to Windows XP, click Update Driver to search for a newer version of
the driver.
·
If a new driver was recently installed, click Roll Back Driver to revert to the previous driver.
·
If a new driver has not been installed or the computer upgraded to Windows XP, the driver may be
corrupt. Click Uninstall to uninstall the driver. When the computer is restarted, the New Hardware
Wizard will detect and reinstall the driver.
