Solution
Internet Explorer (IE) installation:
If you are using IE, follow these steps:
(Due to the bundled nature of IE on Windows, you cannot uninstall it before reinstalling the
components on Windows. You must install over the old components.)
1. Make sure that you have the Suddenlink High Speed Internet CD.
2. Run the Suddenlink High Speed Internet setup file.
3. Follow the instructions as prompted.
Suddenlink High Speed Internet welcome page not appearing
Currently, the browser icon on the desktop will launch the Suddenlink High Speed Internet local page.
If you would like to have a different page load at start up, you will need to change the homepage
preference in the browser. After you have changed this setting, the home page specified in your
browser's preference file will load at startup, not the Suddenlink High Speed Internet local page.
Virus protection software
Viruses have to be run to infect your computer, so scanning all programs that come on floppies or via
the Internet, even the ones from trusted friends, can detect and eliminate viruses proactively. For
maximum virus protection, instead of opening files directly, always choose the "save to disk" option and
then run the file through your anti-virus software.
Hundreds of new computer viruses appear every year. When you purchase anti-virus software, it will
contain a catalog of viruses that were known when the program was created. This catalog goes out of
date almost daily, so you'll need to visit the software vendor's Web site for the latest virus catalog
update. Then, you should download a new catalog every month to keep your system armed to detect
and eliminate the latest virus threats.

If you receive a file from an unknown account or it appears suspicious, it is recommended to delete it.
You can learn more about viruses by using a Web search engine to search for the keywords "computer
viruses."
Backups
Computers are complex assemblies of electronics and hardware. As with any electronic device, it is
subject to wear and the elements. Sometimes even the slightest wear can cause a file on disk to
become corrupt, often leading to software or entire computer crashes. The best anyone can do to
prepare for this is regular maintenance and backups.
