TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Troubleshooting: Unable to Send an Email to an AOL User
► Summary:
This article provides troubleshooting information on some of the issues that may prevent an email from
being sent to an AOL recipient.
► Symptoms
► Cause
An email cannot be sent if the address is mistyped or incorrect or if the recipient is blocking all mail
that is sent from outside AOL.
► Solution
If you are unable to send an email to an AOL user, complete the following:
·
Make sure your recipient does not have email blocking software enabled that would prevent
the receipt of email. For example, AOL allows users to block all email from the Internet. The
AOL recipient will need to allow all email or configure the email client to accept email from
specific senders.
·
Remove any spaces from the email address. AOL allows spaces in email addresses, but when
mail comes from outside AOL, the spaces must be removed. For example, User Name@aol.com
could not be sent; the address would have to be changed to username@aol.com.
·
Ensure the email address for the recipient is correct. Sometimes AOL users substitute a letter
with another letter or number that looks like it. For example, a user may choose the address
U5ER NAM3@aol.com to represent User Name@aol.com.
