Let’s check out the various options that DIRECTV and Suddenlink offer so we can better determine which service provider would best suit your needs!
Suddenlink vs. DIRECTV: Which should you go with?
Figuring out which service provider to choose can be difficult, especially because there are so many different packages to choose from. To help simplify this task, we will be delving into the many offerings of Suddenlink and DIRECTV to help you figure out if either of these service providers can give you what you need when it comes to your television, phone, and Internet services. In this article, we will be discussing the pros, cons, similarities and differences between both companies and hopefully helping you get closer to a decision!
What should I know?
Suddenlink and DIRECTV are both known to be high-quality and reliable. Both companies offer Internet speeds ranging from 10-940 Mbps. It should be mentioned that these speeds come directly through Suddenlink if you opt for this service, however, if you move forward with DIRECTV then your Internet service will actually be coming from AT&T. This is because AT&T owns DIRECTV and DIRECTV only offers television services. Both service providers offer unlimited data plans and plans with no contracts which means that early termination fees need not be a concern for those particular packages.
How is the set-up process?
Suddenlink offers free installation if you opt for one of their web exclusive offers online. Otherwise, it is a one-time fee of $99 for a scheduled professional installation. For Suddenlink, this fee includes the installation of one outlet, as well as a $25 charge per additional outlet. This installation includes one device set up wirelessly and the installation of up to two set-top boxes. This installation does not include any hardwiring of devices. If you choose to upgrade to the premium install, the price increases to $149 and includes local hardwiring for one of the following (TV, computers, gaming, and alarm systems). This premium option allows customers to have all their available devices set up wirelessly and they can get three or more set-top boxes installed. DIRECTV does not charge an initial installation fee. However, there is a $99 installation fee for additional receivers plus a $7 monthly charge. In addition, you need to pay a regional sports fee of up to $9.99/month.
How is the Internet Quality and Speed?
Suddenlink offers a 100 Mbps Internet deal which costs $30 per month. If you are seeking faster Internet, you can opt for the 400 Mbps plan with unlimited data through Suddenlink for $50/month. Lastly, Suddenlink’s 1 Gig (940 Mbps) plan is $70/month.
As we mentioned earlier, DIRECTV does not offer Internet but you can opt-in for AT&T’s Internet services include prices such as 100 Mbps for $35/month, 300 Mbps for $45/month and 1000 Mbps for $60/month.
What are the Internet options?
Suddenlink services an estimated 6.8 million people in eighteen states and offers both cable and fiber dependent on location and availability. AT&T offers fiber to several million people across 21 states. The main difference between fiber and cable is that cable is sent through copper TV lines whereas fiber is made of plastic and used mainly for Internet service. Fiber is typically considered better due to its ability to provide high-bandwidth connections and quick upload times. Furthermore, fiber tends to suffer less due to slowdowns caused by high traffic. It should be mentioned that fiber is not always an option in certain areas due to the high costs associated with it. The good news is that Suddenlink does still offer cable if fiber is not offered near you.
What home telephone services do they offer?
Suddenlink offers Internet and television bundles that include a home telephone option, which is typically the most affordable method. Otherwise, you can include a home phone option with any bundle for $29.95/month. As for DIRECTV, they offer home phone services through AT&T. AT&T offers two home telephone options to customers, one being the Complete Choice Enhanced package which allows local calls for $48/month. They also have a nationwide plan that allows for long-distance calls for $70/month.
How do Altice Mobile and AT&T mobile phone plans work?
Suddenlink offers mobile service through Altice mobile which starts at $14/month per line. If you’re interested in unlimited data, it is only $45/month per line. Altice Mobile offers a nationwide network with 5G access and no multi-line commitments.
DIRECTV does not offer mobile phone plans, but AT&T does. AT&T offers three distinct mobile plans, all of which require a minimum of four lines. All these plans include unlimited calls, texts, and data throughout the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. Their lowest cost option is the AT&T Unlimited Starter which typically costs $35/month. The AT&T Unlimited Extra Plan costs $40/month and includes an additional 50GB of premium data. Lastly, the AT&T Unlimited Elite package offers an additional 100GB of premium data.
What are the television options?
Suddenlink offers several television options such as Core TV, consisting of 200+ channels for $58/month, Value TV which includes 225+ channels for $79.99/month. Select TV which has 290+ channels for $99.99/month and lastly Premier TV which offers 340+ channels plus HBO Max for $124.99/month.

Prices vary depending on location however, the DIRECTV website states that you can save $10/month for a whole year if you bundle AT&T Internet services with DIRECTV. Do know that this requires a 2-year agreement.
