Figuring out which service provider to choose can be difficult, especially because there are so many different packages to choose from. To help simplify this task, we will be delving into the many offerings of Suddenlink and DIRECTV to help you figure out if either of these service providers can give you what you need when it comes to your television, phone, and Internet services. In this article, we will be discussing the pros, cons, similarities and differences between both companies and hopefully helping you get closer to a decision!

What should I know?

Suddenlink and DIRECTV are both known to be high-quality and reliable. Both companies offer Internet speeds ranging from 10-940 Mbps. It should be mentioned that these speeds come directly through Suddenlink if you opt for this service, however, if you move forward with DIRECTV then your Internet service will actually be coming from AT&T. This is because AT&T owns DIRECTV and DIRECTV only offers television services. Both service providers offer unlimited data plans and plans with no contracts which means that early termination fees need not be a concern for those particular packages.

How is the set-up process?

Suddenlink offers free installation if you opt for one of their web exclusive offers online. Otherwise, it is a   one-time fee of $99 for a scheduled professional installation. For Suddenlink, this fee includes the installation of one outlet, as well as a $25 charge per additional outlet. This installation includes one device set up wirelessly and the installation of up to two set-top boxes. This installation does not include any hardwiring of devices. If you choose to upgrade to the premium install, the price increases to $149 and includes local hardwiring for one of the following (TV, computers, gaming, and alarm systems). This premium option allows customers to have all their available devices set up wirelessly and they can get three or more set-top boxes installed. DIRECTV does not charge an initial installation fee. However, there is a $99 installation fee for additional receivers plus a $7 monthly charge. In addition, you need to pay a regional sports fee of up to $9.99/month.

What are the Internet options?

Suddenlink services an estimated 6.8 million people in eighteen states and offers both cable and fiber dependent on location and availability. AT&T offers fiber to several million people across 21 states. The main difference between fiber and cable is that cable is sent through copper TV lines whereas fiber is made of plastic and used mainly for Internet service. Fiber is typically considered better due to its ability to provide high-bandwidth connections and quick upload times. Furthermore, fiber tends to suffer less due to slowdowns caused by high traffic. It should be mentioned that fiber is not always an option in certain areas due to the high costs associated with it. The good news is that Suddenlink does still offer cable if fiber is not offered near you.
